Cardamom - Indian Restaurant
Tucked away in the lively neighborhood of Kemptown at 119 St James's St, Brighton BN2 1TH, Cardamom - Indian Restaurant is the kind of place you might walk past a dozen times and then wonder why you hadn’t stepped inside sooner. If you’re craving authentic Indian flavors that hit all the right notes-whether you’re into fiery curries, creamy sauces, or perfectly grilled tandoori dishes-Cardamom deserves a spot on your radar.
This spot has become a go-to for many locals and visitors alike, especially those hunting for Indian restaurants in Brighton that offer genuine taste, casual atmosphere, and satisfying portions. Whether you’re out for a solo dinner, grabbing a quick takeaway, or settling in for a leisurely lunch with friends, the vibe is welcoming and unpretentious.
The menu at Cardamom is extensive, but not overwhelming. It's the kind of place where Balti and Madras curries coexist comfortably with vegan chickpea bhuna and BBQ king prawns sizzling hot from the grill.
Let’s talk popular picks. One of the most talked-about dishes is the Chicken Thali-a generous plate with various curries, rice, and sides that gives you a little taste of everything. If seafood is more your speed, the Lobster Curry (1 piece) or Sea Bass Green Curry are both flavorful and surprisingly well-balanced, without overpowering spice. The Mussels served in a gently spiced sauce offer a coastal twist that suits Brighton’s seaside vibe.
For vegetarians, Aloo Gobi, Paneer dishes, and Garlic Rice pair beautifully with just about anything. And if you're just in for nibbles, go for Pani Puri, Onion Bhaji, or a classic Papadom-the kind of small plates that make your evening better, whether you’re dining in or taking away.
Cardamom isn’t your flashy, high-end dining experience, and that’s kind of the point. The ambiance leans more laid-back and casual, perfect for weekday dinners, late-night cravings, or a quick meal between work and play. It's popular for lunch too, especially if you’re after something warm, spicy, and filling that won’t weigh you down for the rest of the day.
The staff? Friendly, helpful, and quick to offer recommendations if you’re overwhelmed by choices (which is highly likely, given the number of tempting options on the menu).
Now, it’s worth noting-accessibility might be a concern for some, as there’s no wheelchair-accessible car park on-site. However, they offer no-contact delivery, takeaway, and dine-in options, making it adaptable for different needs and situations. Whether you're ordering through an app for delivery in Brighton or swinging by for a late bite, you'll be well taken care of.
Cardamom goes beyond just good food. They serve alcohol, beer, and wine, which means your Chicken Tikka Masala can be washed down with a crisp lager or a glass of red. Fancy something non-alcoholic? Their juice selection and coffee offer comforting alternatives.
What makes this restaurant a true favorite for many is its ability to cater to different diets without compromising on flavor. You’ll find plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes, and they're not just afterthoughts-they’re crafted with care and balance.
In a city as food-forward as Brighton, standing out isn’t easy. But Cardamom manages it by blending flavor authenticity, affordable prices, and a broad menu that appeals to both spice lovers and the spice-averse. It’s one of those places that doesn’t need to shout to get attention-the regulars and glowing word-of-mouth reviews do the talking.
Looking for Indian food near Brighton seafront? Or maybe you’re on the hunt for a late-night Indian takeaway that delivers actual taste and not just heat? Cardamom - Indian Restaurant covers both bases effortlessly.
So if you're in Brighton and craving real Indian food that’s bold, comforting, and satisfying-Cardamom might just become your new favorite spot.

Just had chicken masala and it was amazing! The chicken was full of flavor, and the biryani rice was packed with spices. Loved the garlic naan too so soft and buttery. Everything just hit the spot.
Had a lush curry here during our weekend in Brighton. Would take the 5 hour train back to Brighton just to experience the garlic rice again. 10/10 recommend.
I had a takeaway delivered to Peacehaven. And it is by far the best Indian available. Tasted phenomenal and it wasn’t really greasy when eating, you can tell it was good quality food. Props to the chef
We usually get a takeaway from Cardamom but thought we would eat out for a change & we will definitely return Favourite dishes are the Tandoori lamb chops & the coconut peshwari naan They don't have an alcohol license but let you bring in your own.. There is a Morrisons & an off license opposite the resturant See you again soon Cardamom
